Welcome to New Zealand Rail 120, Lewis Holden's blog on modelling railways in New Zealand. I'm now modelling in 1:87 (HOn3.5). For NZR plans see the Plans page, or the NZ120 Facebook group.

ZBP Swap Body "Pulpliner" II

Slightly propped up

Parts for the ZBP arrived today from Shapeways. Looks like it will need a few refinements, but otherwise it's looking good... As you can see I tested one set on a styrene UK wagon, fits well and appears to be all to scale. Excellent.

What's up with that?

I'm after another curved turnout as I'm moving the depot area (again...). So off to the interweb I went, finding that my local hobby supplier - Hobby City - has them at $52.90. Ouch.

Further searching on Google revealed that Mack's Track in Wellington had the turnouts for $39.21 (excluding postage), and Main Station had the turnouts for $35.58 plus $4.00 for postage. So I naturally ordered from Main Station...

And this is the part that grinds my gears. When you go to process your order, you've got to select a "dealer" - the Auckland region has Hobby City listed. So, Hobby City supplies the turnouts to a website for $13.32 cheaper, posted, than they do in store? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Still here...

For sale!
I'm still here. I've been doing a lot of polystyrene work around the layout.

Recently I picked up an Athearn FP45 off TradeMe, which I've removed the chassis from. Since the shell is still good, and it's got one of those original blue Athearn boxes, I decided to sell it on TradeMe. Feel free to bid :-)

My thinking is I'll modify the chassis to fit into one of Peter's DXR models. For a frosted detail version it's $350. I'm interested to see how it comes out.
