Light weights

Strong enough to hold a DJ.

In the latest NZ Model Railway Journal, there's an interesting article on building light-weight baseboards using MDF and plywood blocks. After doing a bit of digging around on the internet, I found this website which describes putting together such baseboards.

I'm thinking I might remove the heavy pine framing I'm currently using to hold up my depot module and replace it with MDF framing. Seems to be a much better option.

  1. My layout "Kopikopiko" which I started to build in 2000 was constructed by this method but using 9mm ply as the top and not MDF. It served the exhibition circuit well for at least 5 years before being dismantled. It certainly makes for a lighter baseboard for humping to and from train shows!
The orginal idea was used by Barry Norman way back when and detailed in his book "Landscape Modelling" published well over 25 years ago.
